The apartment is privately owned and run by a former tourist guide and is located in an area with many facilities, including access to the sea front where several swimming pools are located, a lovely sea side promenade - for long leisurely walks, many excellent restaurants, hotel facilities that offer spas, aerobics, gym facilities, and so on.

The apartments are located near to the Lido swimming pools too. One of two large supermarkets located near to the apartments can be found there too. The area has several rent-a-car facilities, many excursions and walking tours companies, and newspaper stalls and tobacco shops. About 7 minutes walking distance west there are some popular bars and night time entertainment at the "Centromar" complex. Transport and Bus services are very easy to get and are about 150 metres away from the apartment. A short taxi ride to the centre of Funchal should not cost more then three euros.

Funchal is in walking distance for the walking fit (about 25 minutes) and getting to the marina and tourism office is a leisurely 20 minute walk. All other services expected in a built up residential area are also available: post office, health centre, souvenir shopping and public gardens. Kids can enjoy a new skateboarding ramp nearby, a soon to be launched dinosaur playing park and kid friendly swimming pools.

Vila Calaça is suitable and perfect for a couple perhaps with a friend (that will sleep on the sofa-bed) or some toddlers who want to avoid the big hotel feel and want the complete independence to cook and do things on their own. The apartment can fit up to a maximum of 3 adults, or 2 adults and two young children. A baby cot is also provided for (the baby stays free).
