The
Quinta Sabino is a sun spoilt villa located near, and just before entering,
the former whale fishing village of Caniçal, in the municipality
of Machico, Madeira Island. The villa is divided into two parts: a bottom
floor, with two bedrooms for four adult guests, and a top floor - which
is reserved for the private use of the owner of the villa for the odd
and infrequent weekend stayover.
The villa was built for leisure. It has a large swimming pool
that sits on a small mound overlooking the Atlantic ocean. There is a
sauna next to the pool and a games room. The
greatest feature of the villa is the amount of garden space and
yard there is about the villa and the amount of leg room there is to be
had. Indeed the villa has some 40,000 m² of land about it that is
owned by the same proprietors as the villa. Plans are in the making for
the building of tennis courts and a dam (there is a stream that runs by
near the villa that should be great for fishing or boating in the future).
The style of the villa is similar to villas you might expect in the south
of Spain or in the Algarve in the summer. That is, white washed walls,
green shutters, airy and sunlit rooms, and mediterranean plant life. Except
that, unlike the continent, the weather is excellent, mild and warm all
year round. It enjoys some of the best weather conditions you can expect
in Madeira.
Madeira
is made of many different micro-climates, and the village of Caniçal
and the area extending towards Ponta São Lourenço are considered
the driest and sunniest on the archipelago - it has the least rainfall
of any part of the island.
The view towards the ocean is also something precious. The Desertas islands
in the distance (see the photo alongside) add some mysterious wonder to
the gorgeous deep blue expanse of the Atlantic ocean - it is also the
main view from all the bedrooms and the living room in the villa.
