The cottage enjoys one of the more idyllic settings to holiday by in Madeira. It is not easy to find such a secluded, refined, fresh and cosily refurbished cottage with an uninhibited sea view in a vast green location such as this in Madeira.

The relative isolation means that a lot of privacy is also enjoyed here. It is the ideal accommodation for two families sharing, for example. Or for a large family with several children and grandparents.

However, being isolated does not mean being distant from everywhere else. Several restaurants and shopping spots are five minutes away by car. Supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, and other amenities are about ten minutes away by car.

It is recommended, indeed, required to rent a car so as not to depend on taxis or busses that are further removed from the property than would be comfortable to walk up to.

Prazeres, where the cottage is located, is a parrish suburb of the main Calheta municipality. It is also here where the third Madeiran golf course is being completed. The beach front is in the Calheta village centre some ten minutes away.

Activities such as sailing, fishing, walking, surfing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, para-gliding are all available in the Calheta area. In some of the larger hotels special activities can be enjoyed such as thallassotherapy, water massage, saunas, tennis, squash, volleyball, spa baths, bio-sauna, nudist suntanning deck at the Jardim Atlantico Hotel, haute cuisine, jeep safaris, golf (soon), and so on.

But it is not necessary to go all to far away from the cottage itself to enjoy the most famous activity of Madeira: levada walking. There are quite a few levadas in the surrounding area.

There is also quite a few niches, paths or "veredas" through terraced cultivated plots of land all around the cottage to enjoy long healthy sojourns by foot.

The walk down to the picturesque fishing villages of Jardim do Mar and Paúl do Mar is especially invigorating. The climb down and back up requires some steady footing and gear! We recommend you bring appropriatte shoes and gear for your holiday trekking.

Prazeres also enjoys a somewhat slightly more sub-tropical climate than many other parts of the island. Expect the odd shower in the middle of a hot afternoon suddenly.

If you decide to stay at the cottage for the day you can spend the day sun-tanning by the pool, cooking up a nice meal at the barbecue, and admire the unique Madeiran landscape about the house.
