The Obrigado Good Hope Apartments are located conveniently in a residential suburb that is in walking distance to the centre of Funchal. A bus service to the botanical gardens passes right in front of the property and can be used to go both to the esteemed gardens and to the centre of Funchal.

At both ends, the town centre and at the botanical gardens, there are cable car systems that go as far as Monte on the upper reaches of the Funchal city limits.

For the experienced tourist to Madeira the location is very convenient for vehicle access - it is close enough to the express way to travel to almost any point in Madeira quickly - including the airport, and since it is in a mostly residential area you avoid the intense traffic congestion around the major hotel hubs such as the Lido area on the west side of Funchal.

Indeed, you do not even need a car hire to stay at this property. The bus service is regular, consistent and cheap. The taxi fare is cheap too - it is so close to the centre of Funchal that you might have a taxi driver or two show some disappointment in not having a bigger taxi fare for their service. Otherwise, just walk! Walking to the fresh fruit and fish market, for example, is about 15 minutes.

If you prefer to eat out more and cater less at the apartment just head down the slope into the popular "Zona Velha" where excellent fish restaurants abound. There are restaurants that serve other fare too: chinese, pizzeria, japanese and even Italian risotto specialists.
