The Casas da
Terça was a property abandoned some decades ago and left to ruin
until when the Ferraz family discovered it some odd dozen years ago. They
were looking for a place in which to build or restore a country home as
a weekend getaway from their city residence in Funchal. They fell in love
with the old ruined two storey cottage and decided to rebuild and completely
refurbish it from top to bottom - it is now a two bedroom cottage with one
double bed in a small room and a single bed in a room with an entrance to
the centre patio of the main property. Most of the work and labour in building
and refurbishing the cottage was done by the Ferraz's themselves.
They
decided to re-terrace, replant and redesign the new gardens, and add many
wooden birds' nests made out of wood, a catering cottage for guests who
wish to cater outside their own cottages, and many small little unique
extras to add a touch of warm and loving personality to the entire property.
The property used to be a working farm in times past and a very old, rustic
wine press was preserved from its ruins and is still visible and kept
to its original state.
