Atouguia Villas:
(Located approximately 35 minutes driving time from the centre of Funchal and 45 minutes from the airport)

One of the most important features of the Atouguia villas is the fact that you are probably unlikely to see other tourists around in this area. This is the deep hinterland of Madeira. It is located in an area still populated vastly by a hard working group or community of farmers that still employ themselves mostly in subsistence farming.

If you enjoy cooking with fresh produce whilst on holiday you are always close to some farmer willing to sell you some potatoes, cabbages, beans, and so on. A farmer's market can be visited on weekends in Estreito da Calheta - a short car ride from the two villas.

However, if you enjoy baking in the sun with the hive of activities surrounding a marina you will enjoy the golden sandy beaches of the Calheta beach - only two kilometres away (as the crow flies). But if it is quiet and relative calm you seek you may want to just stay at the villas and laze on the garden furniture instead.
