Hotel Apartamento da Sé : Location

The Hotel Apartamento da Sé is Portuguese for "the Cathedral apartment hotel". That is, since it is right behind the only Cathedral in Madeira. The Cathedral or "Sé" is considered the centre of Funchal and most maps or driving instructions point to the "Sé" as the heart of Funchal.

Being this close to the centre - or rather, being right at the centre - means that you are a step away from all the main facilities and activities of downtown Funchal. This is where Madeirans live and work. It is not part of the hotel district in the Lido.

As an area that serves mostly the locals it will have many small snack bars, loads of shopping, restaurants, museums and other cultural activities nearby. The marina is metres away. So are all the bus terminals that travel all over the island. No need to hire a car if you stay here! Taxis and tour busses are also close by.

The main market is just a short jump up to the main thouroughfare and down east from there (about 200 metres away). The location is also good for business trips. All the important regional and municipal government departments are a stones throw away. All the main offices of banking and financial institutions are nearby. The town centre is a hive of cosmopolitan jangle and is a very pretty centre with many narrow roads and quaint shopfronts.
