The most salient feature of the location of the Casa Abilio is its relative "off-the-beaten-track" location from Funchal and other tourist hotspots. It is located in a unique niche along a "pico" in the municipality of Machico on the south side of Madeira and facing the sea. It is unlikely you will see other tourists here except for guests at the adjoing and co-owned property next door: Quinta Sabino.

However, since it is relatively remote from a village centre or town centre it is important to hire a car to be able to enjoy the rest that Madeira aas to offer. Moreover, Facilities such as a supermarkets, restaurants, chemist, views and starting points for levada walks are perhaps a little too far away to attempt by foot. The sea, however, is possible to reach by foot - but, remember, there is a steep hill up to the house to climb! Most people can do this easily. If you are physically challenged you might just want to hop into the car and go down the very good road to the seaside.

There are some old "veredas" (walkpaths) that can be found to enjoy the many walks that Madeira offers near to the property.
